Welcome to Holy Rood House …
a centre, a home and a community…
Thank you all for making my visit such a warm friendly and deeply caring experience
This web-site will guide you across the threshold so you can see who we are and what we do.

Throughout the site we have included quotes from our guest books in the bedrooms.
Hospitality lies at the heart of all we are and do.
We are here for you, and for many at a time of need.
As well as professional, therapeutic support, or programmed events, our door is open for rest and relaxation, care for carers, spiritual retreat and accompaniment, training, study and sabbaticals or for a holiday. You are welcome to phone us and discuss your requirements.
Holy Rood House is a charity and Intentional Community with a gentle Christian ethos, providing safer space for those of us who are finding life unsafe. Since 1993 we have been pleased to welcome all kinds of people, of all ages, for all kinds of reasons from across Britain. We have found that once people know the right place for them – they are prepared to travel.
Space – for the possibility of seeing things from a different perspective
We have a commitment to an ‘Ecology of Health’. To follow this, please visit our ‘Learn with Us’ page by clicking here.

GOOD NEWS TO SHARE
Our Intentional Community and Charity is pleased to announce the exciting news that we have a
new Executive Director and Leader of the Community commencing ministry here in May.
Our joy is tinged with sadness though, as our present Executive Director and Leader of the Community,
Revd Elizabeth Baxter, will be stepping down from her responsibilities after 31 years.
Elizabeth will be developing the work of healing from her home in Northumberland.
Elizabeth’s successor, the Revd Sue Hammersley will be taking the Charity forward into the next stage of community life.
We will also be welcoming Sue’s partner the Revd Sibylle Batten, as Co-ordinating Chaplain.
Sue and Sibylle will be living on site as part of the Residential Community.
So please join the Community, in gratitude, with wishing Elizabeth well in this next stage of her life and ministry.
Together we give Sue and Sibylle our loving support as they help to lead us forward, as we continue to respond to our changing world and the needs of so many people from across Britain.
‘Spring’ by Susan Carr as part of our Gallery Exhibition until the end of May
To learn more about Susan’s work please visit our
‘Exhibition Space’ page
In community,
we look for signs of Spring in the garden,
as we look for signs of hope
in one another and throughout the world.
Celebrating signs of hope
we build on them together
sharing them with others
in our small corner of the world.
