What We Offer

An Overview

Holy Rood House is a Community that has been offering hospitality, creativity and accompaniment since 1993.  As well as professional, therapeutic support, or programmed events, our door is open for rest and relaxation, care for carers, spiritual retreat and accompaniment, training, study and sabbaticals, or simply for a holiday in this beautiful North Yorkshire location.

We offer a variety of arrangements for your visit here depending on what you are looking for.

Individual Retreats and Visits

If you need space to recharge your batteries, to explore your story and be heard, to enjoy
home-cooked meals, space to yourself, or be part of the prayerful and creative spaces at
Holy Rood House, you may wish to consider an individual retreat.
You are welcome to stay up to 5 days from Monday to Friday.

"It has been the most calm, serene four days of my life. I can face anything now."

Our facilities include comfortable bedrooms, healing gardens with animals and a labyrinth,
a therapeutic and theological library, study and conference rooms, creative hub and chapel.

You are also welcome to come for the day and to make use of our facilities.  Some guests
enjoy time in our large library - a quiet place to read and study.  Others enjoy the use of our
creative hub, perhaps coming with a friend.  Some guests like to spend time in our garden.

Library

'In the sanctuary of the library I got more writing done than I ever would have at home,
with delicious food cooked for me, peaceful grounds when I needed a breather,
and cheerful conversation to keep me sane.'

Guests that come for one to one professional therapeutic support with a counsellor from our counselling team, or spiritual accompaniment with someone from our chaplaincy team, can also extend their visit before or after their meeting to allow for reflection and rest time.

‘My anxiety and fears which have dragged me down since I was 8 have been transformed to a life of hope.  I now feel I have meaning in my life and am able to view the world with much more positivity.’
